Behavior Offences Stages and their sanctions

The policy is part of the comprehensive policy titled “Behavior for Learning Policy”- version of September 2018 which was reviewed in June 2019 by Phase Leaders and Students’ Support Committee.

Abiding by this policy ensures the smooth pacing of the day-to-day Teaching and Learning processes at DIS-G and guarantees highest levels of student’s safety at all times.

Behavior / Offences stages and their sanctions:

 

Stage 1 Offences (minor offences)

1. Remaining in class without permission Verbal warning
2. Any equal violation determined by the Administrative Supervisor Verbal warning

 

Stage 2 Offences (minor offences)

Violation Type Sanction
1. Incorrect Uniform/not following dress code Written warning
2. Misbehavior in assemblies Written warning
3. Chewing gum Written warning
4. Any equal violation determined by the Administrative Supervisor Written warning

 

Stage 3 Offences (minor offences)

Violation Type Sanction
1. Using the school equipment without permission Break detention
2. Leaving class without permission Break detention
3. Ignoring staff instructions Break detention
4. Visiting school clinic, staffrooms, or leaving section area without permission Break detention
5. Urging others to break rules Break detention
6. Covering for others in actions leading to harm Break detention
7. Littering school premises Break detention
8. Using lockers during lessons Break detention
9. Any equal violation determined by the supervisor Break detention

 

Stage 4 Offences (major offences)

Violation Type Sanction
1. Graffiti on school property A written reflection and 2 marks deducted and/or fine
2. Reckless disruptive behavior especially on school transport A written reflection and 2 marks deducted and/or denial of using bus services
3. Missing lessons deliberately A written reflection and 2 marks deducted
4. Misusing electronic devices especially mobile phones A written reflection and 2 marks deducted and/or confiscating the device as stated in the policy
5. Aggressive offensive language against other students A written reflection and 2 marks deducted
6. Causing disruption during lessons and/ or lectures in or outside the school A written reflection and 2 marks deducted and/or denial of attendance the same class for repeated violation
7. Staying on campus after school without permission A written reflection and 2 marks deducted
8. Any equal violation determined by the supervisor A written reflection and 2 marks deducted

 

Stage 5 Offences (major offences)

1. Bullying act or any similar acts Behavior Contract and 3 marks deducted
2. Inappropriate haircut style, hair dye, wearing jewelry and cosmetics Behavior Contract and 3 marks deducted
3. Aggressive intimidating behavior Behavior Contract and 3 marks deducted+ written commitment
4. Deliberate damage to others’ property or to school property Behavior Contract and 3 marks deducted+ fine
6. Failing to tell the truth and/or falsely accusing others Behavior Contract and 3 marks deducted
7. Stealing (items recovered/returned undamaged or replaced Behavior Contract and 3 marks deducted
8. Sickness pretense Behavior Contract and 3 marks deducted
9. Any equal violation determined by the supervisor Behavior Contract and 3 marks deducted

 

Stage 6 Offences (major offences)

1. Misuse the fire extinguisher/school safety equipment Behavior Monitor Report and 5 marks deducted+ fine
2. Truancy Behavior Monitor Report and 5 marks deducted+ letter of commitment
3. Dangerous behaviors that could jeopardize the safety of others and/or negatively influence the behavior of others Behavior Monitor Report and 5 marks deducted + letter of commitment
4. Falsification 5 marks deducted +letter of commitment
5. Verbal aggression toward a member of staff Behavior Monitor Report and 5 marks deducted + letter of commitment
6. Spreading nasty smell Behavior Monitor Report and 5 marks deducted + letter of commitment
Writing or using offensive or discriminating words against a student Behavior Monitor Report and 5 marks deducted + letter of commitment
7. Any equal violation determined by the supervisor Behavior Monitor Report and 5 marks deducted + letter of commitment

 

Stage 7 Offences (major offences)

1. Ignoring school rules during activities causing disruption to the activity Same sanctions in Stage 6 + denial of attending and/or participating in school activities

Stage 8 Offences (serious offences)

Violation Type Sanction
1. Physically harmful behavior Internal suspension and 10-15 marks deducted
2. Writing and/or stating offensive or discriminating words against a school staff Internal suspension and 10-15 marks deducted
3 Engaging in political, religious, or sectarian discussions Internal suspension and 10-15 marks deducted
3. Any equal violation determined by the supervisor Internal suspension and 10-15 marks deducted

 

Stage 9 Offences (serious offences)

Violation Type Sanction
1. Smoking or encouraging smoking External suspension and 10-15 marks deducted
2. Possession of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or any dangerous substance or tool External suspension and 10-15 marks deducted
3. Physical aggression toward a student External suspension and 10-15 marks deducted
4. Show disrespect for the culture, traditions, and/or regulations of the UAE External suspension and 10-15 marks deducted
7. Any equal violation determined by the supervisor External suspension and 10-15 marks deducted

 

Stage 10 Offences (serious offences)

1. Breaking the federal laws of the UAE or committing an immoral act Expulsion and 15 marks deducted
2. Show disrespect to any national figures or symbols Expulsion and 15 marks deducted
3. Physical aggression toward a member of staff Expulsion and 15 marks deducted
4. Any equal violation determined by the supervisor Expulsion and 15 marks deducted

 

General Rule

Repetition of a violation in any stage will automatically move the offender to the next stage or stages depending on the severity of the violation.

Students whose conduct average is less than 80% will be denied re-enrollment in the next academic year. Students who are close to this average will be put on hold for registration until the end of the year for confirmation.

Duty Retrieved Marks
1 Improved behavior patterns as evident on a monitoring report 1 mark for every 5 days with not less than “good” grading
2 Doing in-school volunteer work such as assisting in monitoring school entrances, break times, etc.. 2 marks for every 5 days
3 Providing academic tutoring and support to other students Up to 3 marks measured against efforts made
4 Providing assistance in shadow teaching or assistance to teachers Up to 3 marks measured against efforts made
5 Assisting and making efforts to prevent bullying  2 marks for every incident
6 No complaints received from any teacher within a period of one month 5 marks
7 Doing community volunteer work in a local institution for a period of two weeks 5 marks
8 Assisting Administrative Supervisors in implementing school policies or monitoring students’ behavior 2 marks for every 5 days
9 Making useful presentations and contributions in school events and assemblies 3-5 marks based on the evaluation of the supervisor
10 Making constructive and positive initiatives to improve a situation in the school community 1-2 marks for each worthy initiative
11 Assisting in and/or making decorative material, educational resources, posters, etc… 2-5 marks based on the evaluation of the supervisor
12 Assisting in enforcing school safety procedures in school premises and buses 2-4 marks for every 5 days
